Dr. Steve Cowan served as an adjunct instructor at Southeastern Bible College for five years until joining the faculty full-time in June 2006. Steve is the advisor for the College’s apologetics minor and teaches courses in philosophy and apologetics.

Steve is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (B.A., 1987), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1991), and the University of Arkansas (M.A., 1993; Ph.D., 1996). He has been married to Ronda since 1986 and has one son born in 2005. He is a member of Grace Covenant Baptist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Steve also serves as the Associate director of the Apologetics Resource Center in Birmingham, Alabama and edits their Areopagus Journal.

Dr. Cowan is a big fan of movies and Doo Wop Music and loves to read science fiction and military history. He is (slowly) working on his own science fiction novel that he hopes to publish in his lifetime.

Dr. Steven B. Cowan and his wife Ronda joined the Apolgetics Resource Center in 2000 from Fayetteville, Arkansas, where Steve had been pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1992, and an adjunct professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ouachita Baptist University and a visiting professor at the University of Arkansas.

Born in 1962 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Steve became a Christian while attending the Calvary Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi majoring in the field of Sociology. Here Steve developed a keen interest in philosophy and apologetics and determined that he would pursue these disciplines on the graduate level. He has earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of Arkansas (dissertation: Divine Sovereignty and Human Responsibility: A Compatabilist Reconciliation), as well as the Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Steve's teaching focus has been on Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Theology, Apologetics and World Religions.

Steve's wife has also been active in ministry serving as a missionary for the Baptist Student Union, with a special focus on internationals. Steve brings much needed expertise into our ministry. Steve edited and contributed to the important new Zondervan book, 5 Views on Apologetics. He has also participated in public debates defending the existence of God and the resurrection of Jesus. He brings to ARC a wonderful combination of high academic standards and pastoral experience. Steve's focus is on teaching and development of our Apologetics Journal (Areopagus Journal) and the Apologetics Institute.
